Thinking Outside of the Box Blog Hop & Tutorial – Gift Bag

Welcome to this months Thinking Outside of the Box Blog Hop and tutorial!  Each month the Thinking Outside of the Box Design Team will be bringing you fabulous projects that are all to do with boxes, bags and packaging!  PLUS each post will have a tutorial for the project so that you can join in the fun too and make your own version!  I can’t tell you how excited I am to be on this fabulous team with demonstrators from EVERY country that Stampin’ Up! does business in!  Here we all are:

This months project is gift bags!  There are so many different options for gift bags and they make such a great finishing touch for giving any gift!

I used my favourite style bag – the bag in a box and I kept mine deliberately super simple – lets face it, at this time of the year we are all hectic with 100 things on our To Do list and sometimes we just have to get the job done, so super simple and no embellishing makes these bags quick and easy to produce for anyone.  Plus, who needs to add extras when that gorgeous Specialty DSP can do all the work for you!  I did however make a very simple note card to go in with the gift in this bag

These Eclipse cards have been really popular recently and they can be as decorative or as simple as you like!  To match my simple bag, I kept this really simple too – I think it looks elegant.

Bag in a Box Tutorial

Part 1 – Box
Cut cardstock measuring 14cm x 14cm (adjust this size box to whatever size you need to fit your gift)
Score each side at 2cm & 12cm
Cut tabs as shown.
Fold along all score lines add adhesive to tabs, and assemble box

Apply Tear n Tape around all outside edges of box

Part 2 – Bag Top
Cut 2 pieces of Designer Series Paper measuring 21cm x 15cm
Adhere 2 pieces of DSP together at short end.  Wrap DSP around box adhering to tape as you go – DON’T SCORE the DSP.  Adhere ends together where they meet.

Cut 2 pieces of coordinating cardstock or Foil paper measuring 21cm x 2cm.  Adhere short ends together and wrap around outside of box following same process as above.

Cut 2 pieces of coordinating cardstock measuring 21cm x 2cm.  Adhere short ends together and wrap around top inside of box – this will add strength for adding your handles.

Add decorative handles using cardstock, ribbon twine or any other medium of your choice.  I simple punched holes and threaded my 1/4″ Copper Trim through before knotting the ends on the inside of the bag.

Cardstock: Soft Suede, Copper Foil Paper, Year of Cheer Specialty DSP
Other: 1/4″ Copper Trim, 1/8″ Circle Punch

Well that’s it from me, but be sure to head around the globe and check out what the rest of the design team have in store for you – remember we each have a free tutorial in our posts!
